I

Welcome to Watercolors by Dana.

This body of work represents a continued exploration of light, presence, and the quiet complexities of the human experience. Each painting begins with observation but is ultimately guided by something less tangible—an atmosphere, a memory, a moment suspended in time.

I am drawn to subjects that carry a sense of history, where light becomes both structure and storyteller. It reveals form, softens edges, and creates a dialogue between what is seen and what is felt. Through this interplay, I seek to evoke a sense of stillness and emotional resonance that extends beyond the image itself.

Working in watercolor demands both discipline and surrender. The medium records every decision, allowing no revision without consequence. It is this balance—control and release—that gives the work its vitality. Layered transparencies, subtle shifts in value, and the natural movement of pigment all contribute to a surface that feels alive and immediate.

My intention is not simply to depict, but to distill—to reduce a moment to its essential elements while preserving its depth and humanity. The result is work that invites a slower looking, where meaning unfolds gradually.

Thank you for taking the time to engage with these paintings.
